Edward Lowassa

Edward Ngoyayi Lowassa (* 1953 in Arusha, Tanzania) was December 30, 2005 to February 7, 2008 the Prime Minister of Tanzania.

Life

Lowassa studied theater at the University of Dar es Salaam and put his Master's degree examination in Social Policy at the University of Bath in England from.

He is a member of the former Tanzanian Chama Cha Mapinduzi party unity. Since the late 1980s Lowassa held various ministerial positions worked from 2000 to 2005 as the Minister of Water and Livestock. From 1990 he was also a member of the Tanzanian Parliament.

Policy

Lowassa was elected to office by the Parliament on 29 December 2005 at the suggestion of President Jakaya Kikwete with 312 votes in favor and only two dissenting votes. He announced the continuation of the market-oriented economic price of the previous government. On 7 February 2008, he announced his retirement due to a corruption scandal known.
