The Eichenberg railway station is the only railway station in the municipality of Neu - Eichenberg in the Werra- Meißner-Kreis in North Hesse. It lies east of the historic village location beyond the B 27 in the district of Oak Mountain Station.

History

The Eichenberger station originated with the commissioning of the railway Halle- Kassel.

1876 ​​Part Niederhone - Eichenberg - Friedland (Han ) of rail line Göttingen- Bebra was completed. This Eichenberg became a railway junction. To overcome the watersheds between Fulda and Werra at Cornberg and between Werra and leash at Eichenberg, substantial inclines and four tunnels were necessary, so the track was very curvy.

On December 15, 1915, the 25 km long Gelstertalbahn of Velmeden about Großalmerode (East) was opened by Eichenberg. In freight transport, it served primarily the transportation of lignite from the North-Hessian coal mining area.

After the end of World War II Eichenberg was a border station. The train service between Eichenberg and Arenshausen was set against it. In 1989, the reopening of the route Eichenberg - Arenshausen was promoted as one of the first. Already on January 6, 1990 first survey work was carried out. In Eichenberg the unused eastern platform ( tracks 10 and 11 ) has been completely renovated and extended, access to the underpass was restored. Also, a turnout was made to avoid a level crossing of the north-south route in the east-west traffic on the road to Kassel. On 26 May 1990, the new platform has been put into operation.

Traits in relation Nordhausen Göttingen had to make head here, so that the curve Eichenberger was rebuilt as a connecting curve at the northern end of the station and put into operation in 1998, which relieved the station.

Track systems

The Oak Mountain Station has extensive trackage today. The passenger traffic is handled at seven platform tracks.

The numbering starts on the northwest side of the station building.

  • Track 1 is a through track and is as main platform in front of the station building. The railway is no longer used in scheduled passenger transport up to individual trains to Kassel later in the evening.
  • Track 2 is a transit rails without platform and serves the trains of freight and long-distance traffic as transit track.
  • Track 3 is divided with a 4 track island platform. Today, the trains of the cantus lines R1 and R7 in Kassel (R1 ) and Eschwege / Bebra / Fulda (R7 ).

The platforms of the station Eichenberg are not accessible to only be reached via the stairs of the pedestrian underpass.

Operation

The Eichenberger station is the hub of the old north-south route ( railway Göttingen- Bebra ) and the Halle- Kassel railway. There are direct connections to Witzenhausen, Hann. Munden, Kassel, Göttingen, Leinefelde, Nordhausen, Halle ( Saale), Mühlhausen, Erfurt, Eschwege, Bebra and partly to Bad Hersfeld and Fulda. Future

The Eichenberger station is not wheelchair accessible. It has long been a barrier-free expansion of the platforms of the population is desired. Also, a reconstruction of Eichenberger station in the state before 1954, is also required over again. However, so far nothing is known even more about a reconstruction of the station. By mid-March 2014, the doors and windows of the main station building were boarded up.
