Geographical location

Eichenbuhl lies in the Bavarian Lower Main region on the northeast edge of the Odenwald, and on the southern edge of the Spessart ( Wertheimer plateau ).

Name

Etymology

The name Eichenbuhl is composed of the Middle High German words EICHIN, for oaks, and buohel within the meaning of hill. As an explanation this results in an overgrown by oak trees.

History

From the district Riedern comes from the same local noble family of Riedern, even today forms the crest motif of a red jug an element of the municipality coat of arms. The place in the archbishopric of Mainz was awarded in the kingdom in 1803 the Prince of Leiningen, 1806 mediated by Baden and 1810 ceded to the Grand Duchy of Hesse -Darmstadt. The mountain race enjoys every year in a big way. The track is 3.05 km long and runs along State Road 507 from Eichenbuhl after Umpfenbach.

Ortsneckname

Major food between Spessart and Odenwald were the potatoes ( Krumm Bern ).
