Eileen Brennan

Verla Eileen Regina burning ( born September 3, 1932 in Los Angeles, † July 28, 2013 in Burbank, California ) was an American actress.

Life and achievements

Brennan came from an Irish Catholic family. She was a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts ( AADA ) and debuted as an actress in the musical Little Mary Sunshine from the year 1959. In the musical Hello, Dolly! in 1964 she played until the year 1970 one of the major roles. Her first movie role she was in the TV movie The Star Wagon (1966 ), in which she appeared opposite Dustin Hoffman. The Last Picture Show (1971 ) by Peter Bogdanovich, in which she played for her role in the film opposite Timothy Bottoms and Jeff Bridges, she was nominated for the British Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the film drama Scarecrow (1973 ) she starred opposite Gene Hackman and Al Pacino in the crime comedy The Sting (1973 ) opposite Paul Newman and Robert Redford. In the comedy Murder by Death (1976 ) she played alongside Truman Capote, Peter Falk, Alec Guinness, David Niven and Peter Sellers one of the main roles.

In the comedy Private Benjamin (1980), Brennan played the female Hauptmann ( Captain ) Doreen Lewis, who mobbte the soldier Judy Benjamin ( Goldie Hawn ) at every opportunity. For this role she was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category. On the film was based the eponymous television series from 1981 to 1983 in the Brennan also played Doreen Lewis. For this role she won the 1982 Golden Globe Award, in 1983 she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She won the 1981 Emmy Award in the years 1982 and 1983 she was nominated for the same price.

In the film drama Breakfast at your (1990 ) Brennan starred opposite Susan Sarandon and James Spader in the film comedy Miss Congeniality 2 (2005) opposite Sandra Bullock and Treat Williams.

Brennan was married to 1974 with John David Lampson in the 1968 's and was the mother of two sons.
