Since the DDR -Liga was reduced from 1956 by three seasons in a season, which reached in the season 1954/55 9th place for the league was not sufficient, so the team in 1956 after switching from the sporting events to the calendar year in the newly established II. GDR League had to make. Thanks to their top scorer Georg Eiermann and Hary Nosal, who had achieved with twelve hits 50% of the steel gates, steel BSG won the first place in the relay northern and got back on the I. DDR -Liga. This time, it was enough to re- descent into the DDR II league for two seasons, after an 8th place in 1957 meant rank 13 after the season 1958. There, the team did in 1959 with No. 8 hard at first, but in 1960, the steelworkers won after winning season and successful promotion round again a place in I. DDR -Liga.
