El Alto Department

The department of El Alto is located in the center of the province of Catamarca in northwestern Argentina and is one of the 16 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north by the department of Santa Rosa, on the east by the province of Santiago del Estero, on the south by the departments of La Paz and Ancasti and to the west by the departments of Valle Viejo and PACLIN.

The capital of the department is the same El Alto.
