El Alto Municipality, La Paz

The municipality of El Alto (more precisely: " El Alto de La Paz " ) is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

The municipality of El Alto is one of five Municipalities of the province of Murillo and located in the western part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the province of Los Andes, on the southwest by the province Ingavi, to the south by the municipality of Achocalla, and on the east by the municipality of La Paz

The municipality has 17 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality of El Alto is with 647 350 inhabitants in the south-eastern part of the county.

Geography

The municipality of El Alto is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 4000 m directly west of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central. The climate of the region is a typical diurnal climate where the temperature variations during the day be stronger than during the year.

The mean average temperature of the municipality is located at 9 ° C, the annual precipitation is about 600 mm (see climate chart ). The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 7 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December. the monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm in the months of June and July and over 100 mm in January and February.
