Elena Golovina

Jelena Viktorovna Golovina, in some sources Yelena Vladimirovna Golovina, (Russian: Елена Викторовна Головина or Елена Владимировна Головина; born February 16, 1961) is a former Soviet biathlete.

In the 1980s and early 1990s Golovina was a member of the dominant at world championships Soviet biathlon team.

Achievements

In 1985 and in the years 1987-1991 Golovina won six gold medals at the 1984 to 1991 for eight years undefeated Soviet squadron. In addition Golovina won from 1989 to 1991 with the Soviet team three more gold medals.

In addition to these nine gold medals Golovina 1987 World Champion in singles and thus won the only gold medal of her career in a single discipline. Two other individual medals she won the silver medal in singles in 1990 in Minsk, as well as the bronze medal in the sprint in 1991 in Lahti. With a total of ten gold medals Golovina was until March 2012, the most successful biathlete in the World Championships. Then it was replaced in these statistics by Magdalena Neuner.

In addition to the World Championships Golovina was also successful in the Biathlon World Cup. In the 1988/89 season she was the first nichtskandinavische winner of the overall World Cup in the following season they finished third.
