Eleonore Dorothea of Anhalt-Dessau

Eleonore Dorothea of Anhalt- Dessau ( born February 16, 1602 Dessau, † December 26, 1664 in Weimar) was a princess of Anhalt- Dessau and by marriage Duchess of Saxe- Weimar.

Life

Eleonore Dorothea was a daughter of Prince Johann Georg I of Anhalt -Dessau (1567-1618) from his second marriage with Dorothea (1581-1631), daughter of Count Palatine Johann Casimir of simmering.

She married on 23 May 1625 Weimar her cousin Duke William the Great of Saxe- Weimar ( 1598-1662 ), with whom she had become engaged just before his campaign to Lower Saxony. The connection, closed for political reasons, which should deepen the friendly relations of Weimar and Anhalt was further described as very happy. Eleonore Dorothea remained in the course of their marriage her reformed faith faithful if they also the Lutheran religion approached her husband is by passed his doctrine of predestination and the Lutheran doctrine of the sacraments took over. The Duchess was initially buried in the chapel of the Weimar City Palace, but in 1824 transferred to the new Weimar Fürstengruft.
