Emil Shimoun Nona

Emil Shimoun Nona ( born 1 November 1967 in Alqosh, Iraq) is archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic archeparchy Mosul in Iraq.

Life

Emil Nona Shimoun studied at the Seminary of the Chaldeans, and received on 11 January 1991 the ordination to the priesthood in Baghdad. He then worked as a parish priest. From 2000 to 2003 he completed his doctoral studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and teaches anthropology in the Church "Babel College " in Baghdad. He speaks Arabic, Italian, Chaldean- new -Aramaic and English.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him in 2009 as Archbishop of Mosul archeparchy and successor of the murdered Paulos Faraj Rahho. The episcopal ordination on 8 January 2010 gave him Emmanuel III. Delly, Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldean Catholic Church. Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Baghdad, Shlemon Warduni, Jacques Ishaq and Andraos Abouna, the Archbishop of Kirkuk Louis Sako, the Bishop of Zaku Petros Hanna Issa Al- Harboli, Bishop Rabban Al- Qas of Arbil, the Bishop of Alquoch Mikha Pola Maqdassi, emeritus archbishop of Kirkuk André Sana and the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt. The inauguration was overshadowed by the murder of an Iraqi Catholics.
