Enrico Celio

Enrico Celio ( born June 19, 1889 in Ambri TI, community Quinto, † February 23, 1980 in Lugano) was a Swiss politician ( CVP). As he was Federal Minister of Transport and held twice the Office of the President.

Career

From 1913 to 1932 Celio was in the Ticino cantonal parliament. In 1921 he entered the University of Freiburg to study law. He graduated with licentiate and possessed in Biasca a law firm. Three times he represented the canton of Ticino in the National Council - 1924, 1927/28 and 1932 as a State - resp.. Government he headed from 1932 to 1940 the Cantonal Education and Police.

He was elected on 22 February 1940 at 2 ballot in the Federal Council. On October 15, 1950, he surrendered his office after he had declared the resignation on June 23. During his tenure, he stood before the postal and railway department.

Celio was President in 1943 and 1948 and Vice President in the years 1942 and 1947.

1950 to 1955 he was Swiss ambassador in Italy.
