Ernő Kolczonay

Ernő Kolczonay ( born May 15, 1953 in Budapest, † October 4, 2009 ) was a Hungarian fencer, who participated three times in the Olympics while winning two medals.

Career

Ernő Kolczonay initially joined in 1964 for Budapesti Honvéd Sportegyesület, since 1969 for Fless Vívóiskola és Sport Club at. The mid-1970's and early 1990s successful fencers started first with foil and epee, later he joined a priority in the epee competitions and won also unique in this discipline international success.

His first medal won Kolczonay with the team at the World Championships in 1974 in Grenoble. At the World Championships in Hamburg in 1978, he won the Hungarian team its first and only gold medal at a major international event. A year later he won in Melbourne World Cup silver in the individual competition. In Moscow Kolczonay 1980 took part in his first Olympic Games and was beaten in the epee individual only the Swede Johan Harm mountain. With the team he finished eighth and the epee team sixth. In 1981, the Hungarian at the World Championships in Clermont- Ferrand with the team again bronze at the European Championships in Foggia bronze in the individual competition. With the bronze medal at the World Championships in Rome in single as well as with the team and the individual in Mödling Kolczonay won his last international medals at World and Continental Championships.

In 1984, he was unable to attend the games in Los Angeles due to the blockade of the Eastern Bloc. Thus, the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul were the second games of Hungary. With the epee team he finished sixth, tenth in the individual. His last major event was the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Kolczonay occurred only with Iván Kovács, Kristian Kulcsár, Gábor Totola and Ferenc Hegedus in the team on, closed his successful career from here by winning the silver medal. In the final, Hungary, the German team with Elmar Borrmann, Robert Felisiak, Vladimir Resnitschenko, Uwe Proske and Arnd Schmitt documents.

After his playing career was Kolczonay among other coaches in Greece. Since 2008, he was waiting for a liver disease for a donor organ.
