Ersigen is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Ersigen is located at 500 m above sea level. Level, 5 km north- northwest of the town of Burgdorf (air line). The former road and stream line the village stretches along the Ösch, on the eastern edge of the flood plain of the river Emme, at the foot of the Molassehöhe Loberges, the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​8.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the central Bernese Mittelland. The western half of the area lies in the flat Emmeebene ( on average 495 m above sea level. M. ) with the plateau of Wade Rain ( 508 m above sea level. M. ) and Aspli (505 m above sea level. M. ). In the extreme west the roads of A1 motorway and railway form the border. The Ösch which drains the entire area in the plane occurs in Ersigen from the Molassehöhen out, but here describes a sharp bend and flows along the eastern edge of the plain to the north.

To the east of the municipality floor extends into the undulating and predominantly forested Molassehügellandschaft, which was once reshaped by glacial Rhone glacier. To Ersigen include the Loberg (580 m above sea level. M. ), the Tannwald ( 597 m above sea level. M. ), the length of a mountain ( 597 m above sea level. M. ), the Allmendfeld ( 618 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of ersigen ) and the Reiteneggwald (601 m above sea level. M. ). To Ersigen the hamlet Rudswil ( 494 m above sea level. M. ) include the right Ösch on the eastern edge of the Emmeebene, extensive residential areas on the southern slope of the Loberges as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Ersigen are Oberösch, Rumendingen, Kirchberg ( BE) and Utzenstorf.

Population

With 1640 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Ersigen one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 95.8 % are German, 1.0 % speak Serbo-Croatian and Albanian 0.8 % (as of 2000). The population of Ersigen amounted 1850 to 1149 population, 1900 to 1113 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased to 1970 slowly up to 1354 people. After a temporary period of stagnation, increased population, were increased again since 1990.

Economy

Ersigen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding and forestry have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In Ersigen today a pottery and a plow factory and enterprises in construction, computer science, electrical industry, carpentry and graphic studios are represented. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region of Burgdorf and in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is easily accessible via. It lies on the old road between Kirchberg Koppigen; the main road 1 from Kirchberg to Herzogenbuchsee runs today outside the village. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located approximately 4 km from the town center. By bus the Regional Mittelland AG, which serves the route Koppigen to Burgdorf, Ersigen is connected to the public transport network.

History

The territory of Ersigen can look back on a long tradition of settlement. The earliest evidence of human presence date back to the Neolithic period. On the Allmendfeld grave mounds were found from the Hallstatt period, while were discovered on the Murain in Emmeebene traces of a Roman estate.

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1112 under the name Ergisingen. Later, the names Hergesingen (1201 ), Ergesingen ( 1255 ) published, Ergisingin ( 1257 ), Erisinge (1271 ), Eregsingen ( 1316 ), Erxingen ( 1434 ) and Errsingen ( 1500). The place name is derived from the Old High German personal name Aragis and accordingly is with the people of Aragis.

Since the Middle Ages is a first under the suzerainty of Zaehringen, mentioned later under that of Kyburgs standing Ministerialengeschlecht of Ersigen. The area moved through various hands in 1367 to the Knights of Thornberg and in 1397 to the Charterhouse Thornberg. Under Bernese rule Ersigen the bailiwick cheeks was assigned, which exercised high justice, while the lower courts since 1528 was for the resident to Thornberg bailiff.

After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Ersigen belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district of Burgdorf and from 1803 to Oberamt hamlet, was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Due to the reclamation of Ersiger moss 1868 new arable land was recovered.

Attractions

In the old town numerous characteristic farmhouses have survived in the Bernese country style in the 18th and 19th centuries. Ersigen does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Kirchberg.

In the hamlet Rudswil bathroom is an old source. From there one has a wonderful view of the Central Plateau and the Jura. The old bathroom is now privately owned. As the place name Ersigen comes also the one the village part Rudswil from the Alemannic settlement time. Rudswil probably due to the Old High German name " Ruozo ". The area of Rudswil was settled later than that of Ersigen. The first reference that points to a possible merger between Ersigen and Rudswil, dates from the year 1329 " Rutzwile bi Ergsingen ".
