Schangnau

Schangnau Färzbach

Schangnau is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Schangnau lies in the north of the Emmental Hohgant. Down at the Hohgant is a valley with the village Bumbach. The place Schangnau lies in the valley below. The neighboring communities of north clockwise beginning are Eggiwil, Marbach LU, Fluhli, Habkern, Eriz and Röthenbach im Emmental.

Policy

Mayor was until 31 December 2011 Ernst Aegerter. Since January 1, 2012 Urich Gfeller has held this position.

History

Politically, Schangnau together with Marbach LU Trub and the Barons of Wohlhusen. Later gentlemen came from Bernese side in possession of the Alpine valley. For a long time there was a big dispute on the membership of Schangnau, in which even the federal Tagsatzungen were included. In 1470 the limit was committed jointly by the two large Schultheissen of Hinwil of Lucerne and Adrian I. of Bubenberg of Bern and finally adjusted ( total direction of March 12, 1470, State Archives, Bern ). Already 1397 Schangnau own court (municipality ) and belonged to the Burkhardt of Sumiswald. In 1389, Jost earned zum Walde (Bernese patrician ), the court Tschangnau for 180 guilders. The heirs of Jost zum Walde sold around 1420 for 150 guilders Schangnau to the city of Bern. It remained as the only community in Bern, belonged until 1790 to the bailiwick Trachsel forest and from 1803 to the Official Signau. 1878, the first street in Schangnau was built that connects Schangnau with Eggiwil. In 1900 the road was added, which leads over the mountain sound.

  • Beat Feuz: (born 11 February 1987) is a Swiss ski racer. Born, raised and living in Schangnau. Currently the most successful ski racer of the Swiss National Ski Team and one of the worlds best ski racers
  • Martin Gerber Swiss ice hockey player. Played some time with the SCL Tigers in Langnau. Was goalkeeper of the Swiss national ice hockey team and has hometown Schangnau
