Europe (anthem)

Europe (Albanian: Evropa, Serbian Evropa / Европа ) is the national anthem of the Republic of Kosovo. For the declaration of independence on 17 February 2008 Flag and coat of arms of the new state were already set. Preliminary national anthem was the European Anthem.

On 12 March 2008 a competition was held in which composers were able to submit their proposals for the new anthem. To select the anthem, a commission was formed with all party leaders by the government. On 5 June 2008, the Chairman of the Constitutional Commission of the Kosovar Parliament Hajredin Kuqi announced that the hymn with the title Evropa ( "Europe" ) was of Kosovar composer Mendi Mengjiqi get the most votes. The anthem was confirmed on 11 June 2008 as a future national anthem by the Kosovo Parliament with 72 votes in favor, 14 against and 5 abstentions. The new national anthem came with the adoption of the Constitution of Kosovo on 15 June 2008.

Based on a text was deliberately omitted in order to avoid possible conflicts with ethnic minorities.
