European United Left–Nordic Green Left

The Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (English Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left, French Groupe Confederal de la Gauche Unitaire Européenne / Gauche Verte Nordique ), short GUE / NGL, is a European alliance of parties and a belong to Group in the European Parliament, the representatives of various socialist and communist parties. History

Precursor fractions

Precursor of the GUE / NGL Group, was founded on October 16, 1973 Group communists and related parties (COM ). It existed before the European elections in 1989. After the European election of 1989, the group split into a more Euro -communist oriented European United Left Group (GUE ) and a more Moscow-backed communist coalition of the Left ( KdL ). The smaller KdL now included the Communist parties of France (PCF ), Greece ( KKE ) and Portugal ( PCP), and the Socialist Workers Party ( SWP) from Ireland. She had 14 deputies. The larger VEL initially comprised 28 MPs of the Socialist People's Party ( SF) from Denmark, the Italian Communist Party ( PCI), the United Left ( IU ) of Spain, and the Synaspismos ( SYN) from Greece. Later, the deputy of the Democratic Left (DL ) came from Ireland in the Group. European elections in 1994 and founded the Group in early 1995

After the election of the European Parliament in 1994 was formed on 19 July 1994, the Confederal Group of the European United Left (GUE) as the union of all forces on the left of social democracy. In 1995, after the enlargement of the European Union, the Nordic Green Left ( NGL) was formed. It consisted of six MEPs the Left Alliance (VAS ) from Finland, the Left Party (V ) from Sweden and the Socialist People's Party ( SF) from Denmark. The Nordic Green Left united with the GUE on January 6, 1995. Fraction newly formed now bore the name Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE / NGL) and had 34 deputies.

In 1998, the group joined a British and an Italian MEP, so that their size increased to 36 MEPs.

1999 European elections

With the election in 1999 for the first time attracted deputies of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS ) from Germany, the Democratic Social Movement ( DIKKI ) from Greece, the Party of Italian Communists ( PdCl ) and the Socialist Party ( SP ) from the Netherlands in the European parliament. In 2002 came 4 MEPs of Civil and Republican Movement (MCR ) from France and 2 MEP of the People's Movement against the EU (FB ) of the Faction. Thus, the fraction reached its highest ever number of deputies of 49 MEPs.

In the context of EU enlargement, the Group adopted in 2003, seven observers in their ranks on: 3 of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia ( KSČM ) from the Czech Republic, two of the Progressive Party of the Working People ( AKEL ) from Cyprus, one of the Latvian socialist Party ( LSP) and the Communist Party of Slovakia ( KSS). These were on 1 May 2004 as full members of the group. This was thus immediately before the 2004 European elections 56 members.

2004 European elections

In the European elections 2004, no deputies of LO / LCR and KSS were chosen more. DIKKI was a party before the election SYN and therefore did not run independently. Elections 2009

After the election of the 2009 European election Søren Søndergaard joined by the People's Movement against the EU (FB ) from Denmark of the GUE / NGL. He is the only Member of EUDemokraten ( EUD ) for European political party. Also new joined the group, the MEP of the Socialist Party of Ireland, while Sinn Féin in the Republic of Ireland lost its mandate in the election.
