Everybody Loves a Happy Ending

Everybody Loves a Happy Ending is the sixth studio album by the British band Tears for Fears. The album was released on 14 September 2004 in the United States and on 7 March 2005 in Europe.

Genesis

The use of the song Mad World for a film music led the quarreling Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in 2000 together again. The song was written by Tears for Fears, reinterpreted by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews for the film Donnie Darko from 2001 and published in 2003 as a single. Smith and Orzabal began in 2000 with the songwriter and producer Charlton Pettus with the compositions for the album, after LA Reid had committed for Arista Records. The release was originally planned for 2003. With the departure of Reid of Arista to Def Jam Recordings, these plans were dropped and the duo split from Arista to release the album on various labels in the United States and Europe.
