Raoul and the Kings of Spain

Raoul and the Kings of Spain is the fifth studio album by the British band Tears for Fears. The album was released on 9 October 1995 on Epic Records.

Genesis

Also for the second album after the breakup of Curt Smith wrote Orzabal again with Alan Griffiths. The album was recorded with studio musicians in Los Angeles and in Orzabals home studio in Bath and produced by Orzabal, Griffiths and Tim Palmer. As a rhythm section functioned well-known as a songwriter for Sheryl Crow's album Tuesday Night Music Club American drummer Brian McLeod and later bass player with David Bowie, Gail Ann Dorsey. For Me and My Big Ideas Oleta Adams has a guest appearance.

The publication of the 1994 largely completed the album was delayed by the change from Mercury Records to Epic Records. The album title refers to Orzabals Spanish- Argentine roots. Orzabal was born as Raoul Jaime Orzabal de la Quintana. Orzabals 1991 born son named Raoul.

Reception

Tom Demalon -reviewed the album for the music database Allmusic as uninspired ( "There Seems to be a lack of ideas" ). The indeed beautiful but unexciting music scratching at the boundaries of progressive rock, but will devalue Orzabals incomprehensible to silly lyrics.
