Falko Weißpflog

Falko Weißpflog (* 1954 in Pleißa ) is a former German ski jumper.

Career

Falko Weißpflog was mainly 1976-1980 international success. Among his greatest successes are the bronze medal in the large hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 and 1976, the ski flying world record with 174 yards on the Heini Klopfer ski jump in Oberstdorf. Weißpflog was initially active for the BSG Motor Gruena after he had convinced the officials with good performances, he started from 1973 as his brother Roland for the SC Tractor Upper Wiesenthal, the later Jens Weißflog celebrated successes.

Due to its wide leaps Falko Weißpflog was also known as a falcon. The Austrian musician Johann Hölzel was fascinated by Weißpflog and then chose his stage name Falco, as he announced in the TV show " maverick leader ".
