Fantasia Barrino

Fantasia Monique Barrino (* June 30, 1984 in High Point, North Carolina) is an American R & B singer and Grammy winner. Gained fame Barrino in May 2004 as the winner of the third season of the talent show American Idol.

Biography

Barrino began singing in the church choir at the age of five years. In 2002 she became the mother of a daughter. She is currently working on her graduate degree. Fantasias advance to the finals of American Idol was overshadowed by violent reproaches. They ranged from racism to the suspicion of a rigged vote counting.

In the final itself on 26 May 2004 Barrino received effusive praise from the judges for her performance. To record producer Simon Cowell described them as the best singer of all over 70 " Idols", which were chosen in recent years worldwide. At the end of the phone vote, in which involved more than 65 million television viewers, Barrino was just ahead of its rival Diana DeGarmo.

Fantasias first single I Believe was released in the U.S. on 15 June 2004. The song was written by Tamyra Gray, who already participated in the first season of American Idol, and had there occupied the fourth place. As with the American Idol winners of previous years, the single was commercially very successful. On 10 July 2004 she reached # 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts. In 2006, she came back with their new album and the first single, Hood Boy.
