David Cook (singer)

David Roland Cook ( born December 20, 1982 in Houston, Texas) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. In 2008, he won the seventh season of American Idol. Shortly thereafter, on November 18, he released his first studio album, which was named after him. It was over a million copies and reached platinum status in the United States and Canada gold status. His second studio album was released on 28 June 2011 and is named This Loud Morning. In advance already the single The Last Goodbye was disengaged.

Life

David Cook was born on 20 December 1982 in Houston (Texas ) and grew up in Blue Springs (Missouri ). At the age of two years, he got a guitar. In the second grade, he started in the school choir singing. At the Blue Springs South High School, he played in various musicals, including in The Music Man, West Side Story and Singin 'in the Rain. He also played there like baseball. After Cook no longer interested in sports, he focused more on the music. He received a scholarship to the University of Central Missouri; but left the theater already after two semesters in 2006 with a degree in graphic design. During his college years he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Most recently, he worked as a bartender in Tulsa.

Musical Career

Cook from 1999 to 2006 Front man and guitarist of the band Axium, which he founded during his time in high school with the drummer Bobby Kerr. Axiums song Hold has been selected by AMC Theatres Movie Tunes and played in over 20,000 cinemas in the USA previews. 2004 Axium were chosen as the best band in Kansas City, Missouri and appointed, in an independent band competition of the " Got Milk? " Advertising campaign to one of the 15 best indie bands in the country. He published a total of four albums with Axium - Matter of Time, Blindsided, Alive in Tulsa and The Story thus far.

In 2006, Axium parted and Cook went to Tulsa, Oklahoma to where the band MidWest Kings join. In the same year they took an EP called Incoherent with Desire to Move On.

In 2006, he released his first solo album entitled Analog Heart, on which he wrote from 2004 to 2006 and whose artwork he designed. The website musicequalslife.com chose Analog Heart as fourth best release of the year.

In 2007, Cook won the award for his album Absolute Best of Tulsa Urban Tulsa Weekly's Best Locally Produced for the Independent Album. He recorded his second album already in front of American Idol.

Over the weekend of 18th to April 20th, 2008 Analog Heart was at number one in the category Today's Top MP3 Albums on amazon.com and thus repressed Mariah Carey's album E = MC ² from the top position. A day later, Amazon removed the album but from the website.

He plays a custom built for him white electric guitar for left-handed Gibson Les Paul.

American Idol

Cook sang in Omaha (Nebraska ), although he initially wanted to only support his younger brother Andrew.

As the American Idol participant was allowed to play in the seventh season for the first time musical instruments, Cook accompanied his singing often with an acoustic or electric guitar.

Throughout the season he was a favorite of the jury and got good reviews.

On 20 May 2008 he was in the final against David Archuleta. A day later, he was named by 56 % and twelve million more votes the winner. Overall, the record number was a 97.5 million calls and SMS. Cook is the fifth winner by Kelly Clarkson (S1 ), Carrie Underwood (S4 ), Taylor Hicks (S5 ) and Jordin Sparks (S6 ), which is never the last two or three (english bottom two or three) came. He is also by Ruben Studdard (S2 ), the second winner, who first sang during the finale. Overall, he is the third male winner and the first from the Midwest.

Within hours after the finale 's first single, The Time of My Life debuted at number one on iTunes. The sung by him during the final songs I Still Have not Found What I'm Looking For, The World I Know and Dream Big followed on the second to fourth place.
