Fareed Haque
Fareed Haque ( born 1963 in Chicago, Illinois ) is an American jazz guitarist.
Life and work
The son of a Pakistani father and a Chilean mother was in his youth with his parents traveled a lot and lived among others in Spain, France, Iran, Pakistan and Chile, where he recorded a wide variety of musical influences.
From 1981, he studied at North Texas State University Jazz guitar with Jack Peterson, later at Northwestern University classical guitar with David Book, John Holmquist and Anne Waller. He worked among others with Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Paquito D' Rivera, Dave Holland, Bob James, Sting, Cassandra Wilson, Javon Jackson, Joe Zawinul, Kurt Elling, Lester Bowie, Arturo Sandoval, Bob James, Joe Henderson, Kahil El'Zabar, Defunkt, Ramsey Lewis and Melvin Rhyne. In 1988 he debuted as a band leader with the album Voices Rising at Sting's Pangaea Records label, later published several albums on Blue Note.
As a classical guitarist Haque with Nigel Kennedy, Robert Conant, Edgar Meyer, Stephen Stubbs, Frank Bungarten, the Vermeer Quartet and several symphony orchestras occurred. In addition, he has taught since 1989 at Northern Illinois University Jazz and classical guitar, where he now holds is an adjunct professorship.
Haque received an award as the Most Valuable Player at the 2002 High Sierra Music Festival.
