Feels is the sixth studio album by the experimental band Animal Collective from Baltimore. It was released in September 2005 on FatCat Records. There were two singles, "Grass " and " The Purple Bottle", coupled on the same label. The album is considered a breakthrough for the band and made them internationally known.

The first copies of the album contained a bonus CD with live material.

Genesis and Tour

The album is again a collaboration between all four members. In addition, well-known guest musicians were present during the production of the album: On the one singing the former múm frontwoman Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir and the American composer and multi-instrumentalist Eyvind Kang is also present on the album.

The release of Feels followed the hitherto longest tour of the band that reached in the fall of 2006 and it was first introduced to Australia and New Zealand. They performed throughout North America and many European festivals, including headlining the Carling Tent of the Reading and Leeds Festivals. On these tours, they also played a lot of songs that were later represented on the album Strawberry Jam.

Cover

The cover is reminiscent of works by the artist Henry Darger. The creator of the cover, the Animal Collective singer Dave Portner (aka Avey Tare ), is a big fan of Darger 's works, but was not thinking about Darger, when he created the cover. He found an etiquette guide for children on the street and thought " the images fit perfectly with the sound and the lyrics " Album

Reception

The album was chosen by the editors of Amazon.com as one of the 100 best albums in 2005 and also appeared on Pitchfork Media 's list of top 200 albums of the 2000s at # 50 Pitchfork rated the album 9.0 / 10 points.

In Plattentests.de 8/10 points were awarded to the album, and there writes Stefan dyer about the album:

" " Feels "is compared with the masterpiece" Here Comes the Indian " an associated step towards pop, but it creates at the same time to preserve the old, typical qualities Animal Collective in itself. Praise the old weird America. "
