Fesches-le-Châtel

Jaunty -le- Châtel (Eng. earlier Vetsch ) is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Jaunty -le- Châtel is situated on 333 m above sea level, about eight kilometers east of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the east of the basin of Montbeliard, on the southern edge of the valley of the Allan, opposite Allenjoie, at the mouth of the page Feschotte Bach, at the northern foot of the foothills of the Jura.

The area of ​​3.46 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The northern part of the area occupied by the approximately one kilometer wide valley of Allan, which is on average 325 m. The original course of the river marks the border, next runs the waterway of the Rhine -Rhone Canal. From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends southward over a gently rising, about 60 m high slope down to the adjoining Kalkhochfläche of the Jura, which is predominantly forested. With 403 m is reached on the hall of Les Landes, the highest elevation of Fesches -le- Châtel. To the east of the municipality of soil ranges in the 400 m wide trough of Feschotte, in which the main urban and industrial area is located.

To Fesches -le- Châtel, the settlement Le Rondelot (350 m) is in the valley of Feschotte. Neighboring communities of Fesches -le- Châtel are Allenjoie in the north, Méziré in the east, Dampierre -les -Bois in the south and Étupes in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Fesches -le- Châtel in 1282 under the name Fesches -Le- Chastelot. In the Middle Ages the present municipality was divided. The settlement Fesches Moulin was part of the rule Bélieu and 1410 has been destroyed by the people of Basel, while the old part of the village with the castle belonged to the reign Cusance. In the 15th century both districts came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Since then formed Fesches -le- Châtel one of the four dairy farms of the county. In 1541 the Reformation was introduced. With the annexation of that county, the village came in 1793 final in French hands.

With the opening of the railway line Montbéliard Morvillars on June 29, 1868 Fesches -le- Châtel was connected to the French railroad network. The passenger traffic on the route was discontinued in 1938, the freight in 1969. The railway was then shut down and completely removed between the stations Dasle - Beaucourt and Morvillars.

The industrialization of Fesches -le- Châtel sat at the beginning of the 19th century with the establishment of the factory Japy, established the screws and bolts. The Japy factories were long the most important employer in the village. Over time, the emphasis on the production of kitchen appliances, especially cooking pots was, and moved ( during the two world wars) of helmets. Due to the closure of the establishment in 1979, the village was hit hard. Today Fesches -le- Châtel is part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Laurent in Fesches - le-Châtel was built in 1869. From the former castle only a few traces are visible.

Population

With 2271 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Jaunty -le- Châtel is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. By 1900 the village had 2,000 inhabitants. The previous high was recorded at the beginning of the 1930s, with more than 2600 people. After a temporary decrease in population 2500 inhabitants was re- registered at the beginning of the 60s. After a slow but continuous decrease of 15 % was registered until 1990.

Economy and infrastructure

Already at the beginning of the 19th century Fesches -le- Châtel developed into a characteristically industrial community. Today, the industrial and commercial businesses located in the Valley of the Feschotte. The former building of the Japy factories were reactivated. Here today manufactures the Cristel SA Kitchenware stainless steel. Other major companies are represented in the fields of plastic processing, canning and furniture industries. In addition, there are numerous shops of retail for your everyday needs. Many workers are also commuters who do their work in the other municipalities of the agglomeration Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It is located on a secondary road, leading from Étupes after Morvillars. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about five kilometers. Further road links exist with Dampierre- les- Bois, Allenjoie and Badevel. With the city of Montbéliard Fesches -le- Châtel is connected by a bus.
