Fessevillers

Fessevillers is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fessevillers is located on 861 m, 9 km east-northeast of Maîche and about 27 km south-southeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the north -east of the vast plateau of Maîche, on a saddle, which leads on to the deep Doubs Valley.

The area of ​​6.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Maîche, which is on average 800 m. It is mainly consisted of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. History

In the Middle Ages Fessevillers belonged to the dominion of Maîche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Maurice is originally based on the 13th century ( Romanesque components ), with the current building stock predominantly come from a transformation in the 15th century in Gothic style.
