Mancenans-Lizerne

Mancenans- Lizerne is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Mancenans- Lizerne lies 720 m, 2 km north- west of Maîche and about 30 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a terrace at the edge of the high plateau of Maîche, above the deep valley of the Dessoubre.

The area of ​​6.09 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the Terraces grounds of Mancenans and Lizerne that lie at around 720 m. They are separated by the valley section of a side stream of the Dessoubre. Below the village, this valley falls quickly into a site and then forms a deep gully ( Vallée du Waroly ), which opens to the Dessoubre. To the southeast of the community area reaches to the hills of Vieux Château ( 837 m), the castle hill of Maîche. In the south, the area extends up the slopes of the Faux Verger, at the 920 m, the highest elevation of Mancenans- Lizerne is achieved.

The municipality consists of the two districts Mancenans (720 m) on the northwest slope of the Vieux Château and La Lizerne (740 m) on a terrace north of Faux Verger. Neighboring communities of Mancenans- Lizerne are Les Bréseux in the north, Maîche the east and south, and Mont -de- Vougney and Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages and La Mancenans Lizerne belonged to the dominion of Maîche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the time of the French Revolution and La Mancenans Lizerne formed a community named Mancenans. Not until 1922 that the town was officially renamed for better distinguishability of Mancenans Mancenans - Lizerne.

Attractions

The Chateau de l' Hermitage, built in 1626 and until the French Revolution belonged to the Carmelites, located above a steep valley to Dessoubre sloping rock. From 1633 comes the Gothic chapel.

Population

With 186 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Mancenans- Lizerne is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 181 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Mancenans- Lizerne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some agriculture ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from Maîche. Further road links exist with Vaucluse, Mont -de- Vougney and Les Bréseux.
