La Grange (Doubs)

La Grange is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Grange is located at 705 m, 6 km east of Sancey -le- Grand and about 27 km south-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the high plateau of Belleherbe, which extends between the basin of Sancey ( Vallon de Sancey ) and the valley of Dessoubre, at the southern foot of Mont de Fonteny.

The area of ​​6.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Belleherbe, the average is 700 m and is mainly consisted of meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The plateau is surrounded to the south, east and north of hills that mark the boundary of the municipality. In the east, the municipality area extends to the foothills of the Montaigu ( 800 m), north on the ridge of the Mont de Fonteny, on the 841 m, the highest peak of La Grange is achieved.

Neighboring communities of La Grange are Rosières- sur- Barbèche in the north, Froidevaux in the east, the south and Belleherbe Provenchère in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages La Grange belonged to the dominion of Belvoir. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The present village church was built from 1787 to 1795 in the classical style on the site of an earlier chapel. From 1835, the Calvary comes.

Population

With 92 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Grange is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 214 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

La Grange was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and animal husbandry, agriculture ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the secondary road that leads from Sancey -le- Grand by Maîche. Further road links exist with Froidevaux and Belleherbe.
