Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik

The festival European church music (in short: EKM ) has been held since 1989 every year in July and August in Schwäbisch Gmünd instead. The festival reaches around 15,000 visitors per season a great attraction. The programs include a musical repertoire from the Middle Ages to the present. In addition to international ensembles guesting young talents. There are also competitions for composition of sacred music and organ improvisation, commissioned works and world premieres. In 2010, the Festival of the initiative of the Federal Government, the German economy and Deutsche Bank Germany was - Land of ideas for his " creativity and innovation " awarded a prize.

Prize of the European church music

On the occasion of this festival will award the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd every year since 1999 the price of European church music at senior composers and performers.

International Competition for Organ Improvisation

The International Competition for organ improvisation takes place every two years at the festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd and is considered the only permanent competition of its kind in Germany. The final round will take place at the Klais organ of the Holy Cross Cathedral regularly. Since 2013, each of the first prize of the competition as Hubert Beck Award, presented in honor of the late co-founder of the festival and longtime jury member Hubert Beck.

Composition Competition Contemporary Sacred Music

The Composition Competition Contemporary Sacred Music will be tendered in the exchange with a composition commission, every two years as part of the festival. A jury assessed the submitted pieces anonymously and award the currently endowed with 2,500 euros prize to the composer. The world premiere of the winning piece is part of the festival program. The submitted pieces come from all over the world, so in 2010 from Europe, America and Australia.
