Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup

Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup is a village in the French department of Haute- Saône in the Franche-Comté region.

Geography

Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup is situated at an altitude of 263 m above sea level, 4 km north-northeast of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse and about 35 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme north of the department, on a slightly inclined towards the south slope above the valley of the Ruisseau du Chanet, at the edge of the plateau of La Voge.

The area of ​​3.54 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the gently undulating countryside on the outskirts of the Voge. And is bordered to the field in the southwest by the Ruisseau du Chanet, in the southeast and east by its inflow Ruisseau le Petit. The latter is dammed below the village to a 5 -acre pond. The Ruisseau du Chanet flows through a Alluvialniederung, which is on average 250 meters and has a width of about one kilometer. It provides for the drainage to the south over the Semouse to Lanterne. Northward, the municipality's area extends over the gently sloping hillside of Fleurey up in the Bois de la Hoiche. History

In 1139, the Augustinian Canons founded here the priory of Saint- Laurent and laid the foundations for the colonization. In the Middle Ages Fleurey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the Prior. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Semouse.

Attractions

The Chapel of Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. Remains of the former Romanesque priory church (12th century) are preserved. The Mairie ( Town Hall) is housed in a former Prioratsgebäude (originally 12th century ) with a pointed arch windows.

Population

With 138 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1881 182 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded by a slight increase since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Fleurey -lès -Saint -Loup was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including a cabinet-making. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community.
