Flüelen ( Italian Fiora ) is a municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland.

Geography

Flüelen is to the right of the Reuss junction at the southern end of Lake Uri, an arm of Lake Lucerne. The place consists of the districts have grown together Oberndorf, village and Usserdorf.

Only 76 ha or 6 % of the community are built-up area. Of these, 28 ha and 10 ha - building industrial area and 30 hectares traffic area. More extensive is the agricultural area of 273 ha, or a share of 22 %. Among them are Alpine regions, which lie east of the village on the slopes of Eggbergen (municipality Altdorf ). Population

Because of its importance as a trade hub at the Gotthard route older population figures are already known. The place grew relatively slowly 1685-1743. This growth accelerated slightly to 1799. Too, in the phase until 1860, the number of residents increased only slowly. An outstanding year was 1880. The population was significantly higher than before due to the presence of construction workers of the Gotthard Railway. Therefore dropped to 1888 once again striking. Then between 1888 and 1920 there was a permanent population increase of 62%, as a result of good transport links ( Axenstrasse and Gotthard Bahn ). This was followed by a decade of stagnation. In the 1930s, a further 37% of the population grew. After a steady growth thrust to 1970 followed by 1990 a small decline in the population. Thus, growth remained in the half-century 1941-1990 modest. Since 1990 began a strengthened and sustained growth until today.

Languages

The population speaks a high- Alemannic dialect. Almost the entire population speaks German as a daily vernacular. At the last census in 2000 gave 94 % German, 2% Italian, and about 2% Albanian as a primary language.

Religions - faiths

The population was formerly full member of the Roman Catholic Church. The confessional relations in 2000 can still recognize the original structure. 1562 people were Catholic ( 87%). There were 6% Evangelical Protestant Christians, Muslims 1.4% and 2.80 % non-religious. 28 people did not respond to their creed.

Origin - Nationality

From the end of 2005 1874 residents were 1692 (90 % ) Swiss nationals. The immigrants originate mainly from Central Europe ( Germany ), from southern Europe ( Italy) and the former Yugoslavia (Serbia - Montenegro). At the 2000 census, 1601 people (90 %) were Swiss citizens; it possessed 57 people dual citizenship.

Traffic

History

The still existing brick production in Flüelen is first documented in 1560. 1576 took over from Walter Ritter roll the brick cottage.
