Fortaleza Esporte Clube

The Fortaleza Esporte Clube is a football club from the capital of the Brazilian state of Ceará, the coastal city of Fortaleza. The club was founded on October 18, 1918 playing in the 2013 season in the Série C, the third division of Brazil.

History

The establishment of the association goes back to Alcides Santos. In February 1912, he first founded a club called " Fortaleza ". In addition, he was involved in May 1915 on the establishment of the Stella Foot - Ball Club. On October 18, 1918, including the Fortaleza Sporting Club was created as the club was known before his name change to Fortaleza Esporte Clube.

In 1920, the club was involved in the development of a representation for the regional football teams and won in the same year, the first time the State Championship of Ceará, the so-called Campeonato Cearense. In the meantime - until 2007 - the club could win the title 36 times. A national title never reached the club so far. After descending from the first Brazilian league in 2006 Fortaleza played until 2009 in the Série B. Since 2010, the club plays in the Série C.

Stadium

The Fortaleza Esporte Clube plays its home games at Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo, owned by the State of Ceará. Fortaleza shares the venue, which is just called " Castelão " in general, with local rivals Ceará SC. The stadium was inaugurated on 11 November 1973, provides approximately 60,000 spectators. The Castelão should also occur in the Football World Cup in 2014 for use.
