Franck Piccard

Franck Piccard ( born September 17, 1964 in Les Saisies ) is a French former alpine skier. His younger siblings John, Ian, Leila, Jeff and Ted were also skier.

Career

The first big success came Piccard at the inaugural Junior World Championship 1982, where he won the gold medal in downhill skiing. In the World Cup he drove for the first time on 10 December 1983 and fourth place in the Super G in Val d'Isere in the points. His first World Cup victory was on 23 March 1988 at the Super G in Beaver Creek. Earlier in his career he was mostly downhill and super-G races as well as in combinations at the start, but later also increased in the giant slalom. Overall, he celebrated four wins and reached eleven podiums in the Ski World Cup. His last World Cup race went Piccard on 10 February 1996, fell after that until 2000 at the French Championships and FIS races in France at the start.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 Piccard won the inaugural competition in the Super -G and thus the gold medal. He also was able to win bronze in the downhill. Four years later he succeeded in his home country at the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville again the silver medal in the downhill. At World Championships Piccard took some five times, his best result here is the third place in the Super G in Saalbach -Hinterglemm 1991. Between 1985 and 1993, he was three times French Champion.
