Franco De Piccoli

Franco De Piccoli ( born November 29, 1937 in Mestre, Venice) is an Italian former boxer.

Amateur

Southpaw De Piccoli began in 1960 at the Italian Championships in the heavyweight division by and could thus qualify for participation in the taking place in the same year the Olympic Games in Rome. There he succeeded with victories over the Belgian Willy Venneman, the three -time European champion Andrei Abramov from the Soviet Union and the starting for Czechoslovakia Josef Němec, European Champion 1963, the entry into the final of the Olympic Boxturniers. He defeated the South Africans Daniel Bekker by KO in the second round. De Piccoli thus became the only previous Italian Gold Medal winner in the heavyweight class.

Professional

After the Olympics, he began a five-year professional career. De Piccoli, however, punched exclusively in Italy and was able to record as a professional, no significant success. As a result of his successful pro debut in December 1960, he won all his fights until 1963, but then declined two consecutive knockout. Then twelve more victories he succeeded in series, however, which was followed by two re- KO defeats, after which he had career ended.
