Frank Church

Frank Forrester Church ( born July 25, 1924 in Boise, † April 7, 1984 in Bethesda ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. He was represented from 1957 to 1981 for the State of Idaho in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Church became famous revealed by the so-called Church Committee, committees of the Senate, the unconstitutional Information procurement and other illegal activities of American intelligence and secret services. From 1979 to 1981 he was also the chairman of the influential Committee on foreign policy. In the Democratic primary for the presidential candidacy Church was subject to later President Jimmy Carter.

In the final report of the Church Committee he recognized that "the growing misuse of intelligence reflects a larger, more fundamental problem in our central institutions. "

Church died on April 7, 1984 at the age of 59 from pancreatic cancer.
