Franz Wöhrer

Franz Wöhrer ( born June 5, 1939) is a former football referee of the Austrian Football Association.

Life and work

Since 1957 referee in the main professional teacher, he reached the top division in Austria, the league A, in 1964 and launched at this level games until 1987. As a FIFA referee on the international list for the Austrian Football Association, he was from 1969 until 1987. He directed more than 300 games in the Austrian Bundesliga and the Cup - final second leg against SK Sturm Graz FC Wacker Innsbruck ( 1915) (2-0). 160 international matches, including 75 in the European club cup competitions, prove its successful international career.

On 2 May 1986, he led the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup between Dynamo Kiev and Atletico Madrid ( 3-0), on 13 December 1987 at National Stadium in Tokyo the final of the Intercontinental Cup between FC Porto ( Portugal) and CA Peñarol (Uruguay ), which ended 2-1. In addition, he led the second leg - final encounter of the U -21 Football Championship 1978 between Yugoslavia and East Germany ( 4-4 ) in Mostar.

In each case a game was under his leadership at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow ( Soviet Union - Venezuela 4-0) as well as at the World Cup finals in Spain in 1982 (Peru - Cameroon 0-0).

In 1987 he finished his referee career and took over functions in the Austrian refereeing and as a referee observer. Since 2010 Franz Wöhrer is an honorary member of the OFB and the WFV. He is also as chairman of the oldies with a twist, an association of former referee, works.
