Fred Carreiro

Helbert Frederico Carreiro da Silva ( born August 18, 1979 in Belo Horizonte ), called Fred, is a Brazilian footballer.

Career

Fred played during his youth in América FC in his home city of Belo Horizonte, where he received also his first professional contract. In addition, he also played for Guarani FC and Tupi FC.

In summer 2006, he moved to Australia to Melbourne Victory. There, the Brazilians acted as an attacking midfielder behind the strikers Archie Thompson and Daniel Allsopp. Not least thanks to its services, Melbourne was by far the most goals scored champions of the regular season and went on to win the championship playoffs. The season's highlight was its inaugural Grand Final against Adelaide United. To the 6-0 final success Fred contributed with four assists for the five-time goal scorers Archie Thompson.

He subsequently moved in the spring of 2008 in the U.S. professional league Major League Soccer to DC United, with whom in 2007 he also took first place in the regular season. Nevertheless, it failed in the play-offs in the first round. In 2008 he won the national cup competition with United Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, in the final he scored in the 50th minute of the 2-1 victory against Charleston Battery. After the 2008 season, he returned as a guest player of the Wellington Phoenix for a short time in the A-League back and completed three games before he broke his stay because of the sudden death of his father. The end of 2008 led the Australian offshoot of the magazine FourFourTwo Fred in his list of the best A-League imports ranked 2nd behind Dwight Yorke.

In 2010 Fred played for the Philadelphia Union, the 2011 season he was selected by the New England Revolution in the Re -Entry Draft, but could not agree on a contract with the club and was eventually to DC United issued, where his younger brother Junior Carreiro played. For the 2011/12 season he returned to Australia and will accrue as a marquee player for Melbourne Heart, shortly before the start of the season he was coach John van ' t Schip as the successor of Simon Colosimo appointed team captain.
