Fremantle Football Club
The Fremantle Football Club, also known as Fremantle Dockers, is an Australian football team from Fremantle, a port town 20 kilometers southwest of Perth, which plays in the Australian Football League. Home of the Dockers is the Subiaco Oval in Subiaco, a suburb of Perth. The club's colors are purple and white. Due to its geographical location, there is a rivalry between the Dockers and the West Coast Eagles, who also come from Perth.
At the start of the 2013 season Fremantle was one of the most unsuccessful teams in the AFL with a win rate of only 41.58% and only four finals with a record of three wins and five defeats. The best-known players of the Dockers is Matthew Pavlich with six nominations for the All Australian team, completed 279 games and 558 Goals.
History
1993, plans for a new Australian football team on the West Coast, as this region was in the AFL so far represented only by the West Coast Eagles in the competition. The first training session of the newly founded Dockers took place on 31 October 1994 in preparation instead of the 1995 season. The location of Fremantle was chosen to honor the rich history of Australian Football in this region in which the sport is already operated since 1880.
The first season of Dockers ended with eight victories and 14 defeats at the 13th place in the standings. There were other years in the lower third of the table, before the 2003 season was completed in fifth place, which meant a place in the finals. Here you had to admit defeat, however, the Essendon Bombers already in the qualifying final. In the following two years, the finals were just missed, reached in 2006, the Dockers but again the finals with a third place in the standings at the end of the regular season. Here Fremantle managed nine wins in a row with 15 wins this season, the best club performance up to this point. In the finals, they lost the first match against the Adelaide Crows, but managed in the first semi-final victory against the Melbourne Demons and reached the semifinal at the entry into the Grand Final. However, the Sydney Swans were too strong and defeated the Dockers with 35 points difference.
After several unsuccessful years of Fremantle in 2010 again reached the Finals as sechtsbestes team the regular season. In the first round they defeated the favored Hawthorn Hawks with 30 points difference in the semifinals but had to get the Geelong Cats significantly with 69 points defeated. 2012 managed the Dockers again made it into the finals, where they were again a surprise success against the first of the regular season, the Geelong Cats, succeeded in the subsequent match against the Adelaide Crows but was lost again.
