Boroughs

At Freudenberg include districts as the formerly independent communities Boxtal, Ebenheid, Rauenberg and Wessental. For the former municipality Boxtal the village Boxtal, the homestead Tremhof and the living space include Sägmühlen. For the former municipality Ebenheid part of the village Ebenheid. History

1159 Freudenberg was first mentioned in documents as Lüllenseit. Between 1160 and 1200 built the Bishopric of Würzburg, to which it belongs, the castle Frouwedenberch whose name carries over to the settlement. In 1287, Freudenberg is first mentioned in a charter as a town ( castrum et civitas = castle and town ) called. On September 9, 1295 Würzburg prince- bishop confirmed the Counts of Wertheim, the investiture of the castle and town. Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1333 gives the Gelnhäuser city law at Wertheim. Boxtal

Boxtal is first mentioned in 1181 as Bockeshol documented. 1396 half of Boxtal is sold by the Lords of Riedern to the Counts of Wertheim. One of the main attractions in Boxtal is probably the oldest German Lourdes Chapel - founded by the Rev. Lawrence Englert. The chapel was consecrated on 26 July 1885.

Ebenheid

Ebenheid is first mentioned in 1294 as Ebenothe. Since 1317 the German Order is lord of the manor; since 1423 the village belongs to the Official Freudenberg. Since 1545, the Counts of Wertheim masters of Ebenheid. 1612 fall of the city to the Bishopric of Würzburg, which he shares from now on the history of Freudenberg.

Rauenberg

It is believed that the hamlet Wineden ( " obtained by clearing land"), which was first mentioned in 1214, the town was Vorsiedlung today.   • Freudenberg is on the Nibelungen road that leads past many sights.
  • At the town hall of Freudenberg is the eastern entrance to Nibelungensteig, a 124 km long, certified distance trail runs through the Odenwald from west to east completely.

Structures

The historical city center of Freudenberg is the total investment since 2004 under monument protection. Above the town rises the ruin of Freudenburg, which dates back to the late 12th century. The cemetery chapel of St. Lawrence comes in its oldest parts of 1149th The old Catholic parish church of St. Lawrence was built in 1691/92, a new, also of St. Lawrence Catholic parish church consecrated in 1957.

Traffic

Freudenberg is served by the Main Valley Railway ( Aschaffenburg -Wertheim ) to the national rail network, with the breakpoint is beyond the River Main in Bavaria in the district Kirschfurt the village of Colle mountain. A road bridge over the Main owns the place since 1907.
