Fuentes de Oñoro

Fuentes de Oñoro is a municipality in the province of Salamanca the Autonomous Community of Castile and León in Spain. Together with the Portuguese Vilar Formoso neighboring town the church is particularly known as a border town with Portugal.

Through the city passed both the railway Pampilhosa - Guarda - Salamanca (on page Linha da Beira Alta Portuguese ) as well as the developed partly as a motorway European route E80.

1811 defeated a British- Portuguese army under Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, a French army under the command of Marshal André Masséna. This battle became known as the Battle of Fuentes de Oñoro.

One of the few known inhabitants of Fuentes de Oñoro is the journalist and ranchers Alfonso Navalón Grande.
