Fußgönheim is a municipality in the Rhein- Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Maxdorf.

Geography

Fußgönheim located west of Ludwigshafen on the Rhine in the Upper Rhine Plain. Through the town flows the brook Swabia. Adjacent communities from east clockwise are Ludwigshafen, Schauernheim, Gönnheim, Ellerstadt, Birch Heath and Maxdorf.

History

Archaeological finds indicate a settlement at the time of the Celts and Romans, the first certain documentary evidence comes from the Product Classification Prüm Abbey from the year 893

Fußgönheim was of 900 to 1100 in the possession of the Salian emperors house, later the sovereignty passed to the Palatinate. Structures

The Hallbergsche castle was built in 1728-31 for the Palatine Chancellor Baron Jakob Tilmann Hallberg. In 1815 the castle is privately owned and was used as a shop, barn and storage. In 1972 it was purchased by the Catholic church and carefully restored.

The complex belongs to the baroque palace church of St. James the Great was built in 1740/41.

The Protestant Lutheran Church was built in 1732/33. On the site can already demonstrate a church in 1253.
