Gałwuny

Gałwuny ( German United Galbuhnen ) is a village in Poland in the community Ketrzyn ( Rastenburg ), Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

Geography

Geographical location

Gałwuny is located three kilometers north-west of Kętrzyn. About 26 kilometers north of the village, the state border runs to Kaliningrad Oblast.

History

The village was mentioned in 1419 as Galwonen and derives from Old Prussian " GALWA " (head, head ), but describes the situation in a bulge in a pond or in an old river bed. The actual local establishment of Greater Galbuhnen by a locator falls in the year 1422, but the Old Prussian settlement existed for some time before. In 1533 it was known as Gros Galbun, 1689 Gross Galbuhnen. This year there was in the place, who took nine hooves area, two taverns. The inhabitants had to pay oats eleven bushels of rye, wheat and barley, and 15 bushels. The village belonged to the parish of Saint George in Kętrzyn. In the 18th century, a school was established in the village.

In January 1945, the Red Army marched into the village and the settlement was as a result of World War II Poland. 1954 Gałwuny seat of a Gromada with Julian Ślęzak as a conductor. The Gromada early as 1957, redissolved. 1973 Gałwuny seat of a Schulz Office ( sołectwo ) with three villages. The mayor's office was in turn part of the community Kętrzyn. Today ( 2006) belong to the mayor's office the villages Borki ( Borken ), Kaskajmy ( United Köskeim ) Katkajmy ( Kattkeim ) Olchowo ( Erlenhof ) and Ostry Róg ( Scharfenort ).

1785 United Galbuhnen had 20 houses, 1818 there were two less with 132 inhabitants. 1939, the place had 381 inhabitants and in 1970 there were 225

Leads through the village the Province Road 592 in the south it ends in about three kilometers from county seat Kętrzyn. In the northwest, it crosses about 15 kilometers, the Province Road 590, which leads to Reszel ( Rößel ) and Korsze ( Korschen ). The 592 ends in Bartoszyce ( Bartenstein ). The nearest international airport is the Polish Lech Walesa Airport Gdansk, the more important Frédéric Chopin Airport Warsaw is located about 200 kilometers away. The Russian Kaliningrad Airport is about 90 kilometers to the north.
