Garnet Exelby

Garnet Exelby ( born August 16, 1981 in Ste. Anne, Manitoba ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since July 2012 with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Garnet Exelby was chosen as the 217th overall player in the eighth round of the Atlanta Thrashers during the NHL Entry Draft in 1999. First, however, the defender stayed with his team from the Western Hockey League, the Saskatoon Blades. For the Blades and the Regina Pats league rivals, he also played the following two seasons in the WHL.

During the 2001/ 02 season Exelby played for the first time in professional hockey. For the farm team of the Thrashers, the Chicago Wolves, he came in the American Hockey League in 75 games to seven scorer points, including three goals, and won the Calder Cup at the end of the season. The following year, Exelby first played in the National Hockey League and came in his first season at 15 NHL bets. Most of the time he spent again at the Wolves.

From the season 2003/ 04 the Canadians came exclusively for the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL used. Only once, in the 2006/07 season to Exelby could qualify his team for the playoffs. On 1 July 2009, the Thrashers transferred the Canadians along with Colin Stuart in exchange for Pavel Kubina and the rights to Tim Stapleton to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the 2009/10 season he was in 51 games for the Maple Leafs in action, scored a goal and collected four points.

In September 2010, he had a tryout with the New York Rangers, but Exelby received a contract offer. On October 8, he signed a contract with the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.

On 5 July 2011, Exelby agreed on a contract for one year with the Detroit Red Wings, who defended the defender in the farm team for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. In July 2012, he signed a one year contract with the Boston Bruins.
