Gävle Municipality

Gävle is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and the historic province Gastrikland. The main town of the municipality is Gävle.

Other towns are Åbyggeby, Bergby, Björke, Forsbacka, Furuvik, Hamrångefjärden, Hedesunda, Norrsundet, Totra, Trödje, Valbo and other smaller villages. Through the community, the European Route E4 and E16 and the imperial roads lead 56 and 76 and four railway lines that come together in the city of Gävle.

Geography

The municipality extends as an approximately 30 -kilometer-wide coastal strip about 90 kilometers along the Baltic Sea and further south in the country. The coast are offshore archipelago.

In the center of the village, the city Gävle is located at the mouth of the rivers Gävleån and Testeboån in the Baltic Sea. 10 km south of Gavle place Furuvik located on the coast, which is known for its established already in 1900, zoo and amusement park Furuviksparken. About 20 kilometers west of Gävle on the E16 is the industrial center Forsbacka, which was founded in the 16th century. The ironworks from the 18th century is an industrial monument.

About 40 kilometers north of Gavle Hamrångefjärden lies with the villages Hamrångefjärden, Totra and Norrsundet. The ironworks in Vifors close was founded in 1694. Today's development with a manor house in Rococo, the hammer mill and other buildings from the 18th century.

About 50 kilometers south of Gävle crosses the valley of the Dalalven the municipal area which widens there to a series of lakes. From Hedesunda, located at the northern tip of the Hedesundafjärdens, the headland Ön extends south into the Dalalven.

Economy

The municipality of Gävle is a service and industrial community. Gävle is not only capital of the province, but also the headquarters of the provincial administration and several Swedish central offices. In the industrial sector is dominated by intermediate goods industries and wood processing industry, but also food industry ( General Foods and Ahlgrens ) plays a certain role.
