Gazanfer Bilge

Gazanfer Bilge ( born July 23, 1924 in Karamürsel, Kocaeli, † April 20, 2008 in Istanbul) was a Turkish wrestler. He was at the 1948 Olympic Games in London Olympic champion in free style at featherweight.

Career

Gazanfer bilge began in 1940 during his military service with the rings. He was active here in two styles, but generally preferred the free style.

When it was again held in 1946 for the first time after the 2nd World War European Championship in Stockholm, Gazanfer bilge was also at the start and won in free style featherweight the European title. He also defeated the strong Olle Anderberg from Sweden and the experienced European champion of 1933 and 1937 Ferenc Tóth of Hungary.

At the European Championships in Prague in 1947 in Greco- Roman style, he got along not so good, was defeated after two victorious battles against the Czech Frantisek Kotrbary and v Olle Anderberg, reaching only the 5th Place.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1948, he started again in free style. He was there in top form and won six of the battles he had to deny five fights prematurely. Only the Swede Ivar Sjölin came with it over time. The gold medal was the reward for his good services.

After 1948 Gazanfer Bilge involved in any international championships more. He was replaced by Nurettin Mehmet Zafer and octave. But his retirement from wrestling, he declared only in 1953. Following this resignation is Gazanfer great merits acquired in the field of youth training and education. In 2002 he was awarded the " International Fair Play Committee" ( CIPP ) in Paris a high distinction. In addition, in Büyükcekmece, Istanbul, named in August 2006, a sports hall after him.
