Gemerská Ves

Gemerská Ves (Hungarian Gömörfalva ) is a town in central Slovakia with 955 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Revúca, a circle of Banskobystrický kraj and is located in the traditional landscape Gemer.

Geography

The municipality is located in the south-eastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains at the transition into the basin Juhoslovenská kotlina, at the confluence of Turcianska and Východný Turcianska. The center is located at an altitude of 197 m nm and is nine kilometers from Tornaľa and 31 Kilometers away from Revúca.

Administratively divided the community in community Hrkač parts and Šankovce.

Neighboring municipalities are Leváre and Licince in the north, Meliata in the northeast, Gemer in the east, Levkuška in the south, Rašice in the southwest and Polina in the West.

History

The municipality was created in 1960 by merger Gemerská Ves of Hrkač (Hungarian Harkács ) and Šankovce (Hungarian Sánkfalva ).

Hrkač was first mentioned in 1274 as Harkach writing and evolved from an earlier settlement. In 1423 there were ten Porta here. 1828 were counted 53 houses and 431 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture.

Šankovce was first mentioned in 1266 as Raas writing. 1427 lived here the families Sánkfalvy and Husz. In the 15th century, the village was divided into an upper and a lower part and was temporarily the Vicarage of Jossau. In the 16th century the inhabitants fled before the advancing Ottomans, the village was inhabited but quickly. In the 18th century it belonged to the Steinicher and Draskóczy. 1828 were counted 61 houses and 474 inhabitants, who were also engaged in agriculture.

Until 1918, the places lying in the county Gemer and small Hont belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. On the basis of the First Vienna Award in 1938-45 they were again in Hungary.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Gemerská Ves 952 inhabitants, of whom 543 Magyars, Slovaks, 256 and 102 Roma. 51 inhabitants did not know. 751 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, 38 inhabitants to the Reformed Church, 15 inhabitants to the Evangelical Church AC, 14 inhabitants to the Jehovah's Witnesses, three inhabitants of United Methodist Church, two residents of the Greek Catholic Church and each one population to evangelistic church and the Czechoslovak- Hussite Church. 67 residents were non-denominational and 60 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
