George Pelecanos

George P. Pelecanos ( born February 18, 1957 in Washington, DC) is an American journalist, crime writer, screenwriter and producer.

Life

George P. Pelecanos has Greek ancestry and grew up in Washington DC on, where his father emigrated as a child. Born into a working class family Pelecanos helped the family, which earned etc. in the Greek scene with immigrants working in the airline catering, bars, coffeeshops their livelihood. Until age 32 he worked in various jobs, including as an electronics merchant, shoe salesman, construction worker or as a bartender and completed at the same time to study art at the Maryland University. Then Pelecanos began writing and published in 1992 with A Firing Offense the first part of the Nick Stefanos trilogy. In this and seven other novels, the story of Washington for several decades - From the perspective of the little people describes Pelecanos - socially critical. His novels are all in Washington, D.C. and environment.

Pelecanos ' literary talent secured him journalistic publications in The New York Times, The Washington Post, the American edition of Gentlemen's Quarterly ( GQ ), in Washingtonian magazine culture and many other publications.

Pelecanos was a producer, screenwriter and writer for film and television very successful. For the famous U.S. TV series The Wire, he wrote seven screenplays, most of the 4th season, which earned him a nomination for the Emmy.

George P. Pelecanos lives with his wife and three children in Silver Spring / Maryland.
