Geraldine Fitzgerald

Geraldine Fitzgerald (born 24 November 1913 in Dublin, Ireland, † July 17, 2005 in New York City, USA) was an Irish- American actress.

Career

After her stage debut as a teenager in Ireland Fitzgerald was drawn in the 1930s to New York, where she stood, among others, Orson Welles on stage. After a series of Hollywood productions, she later returned to Broadway. Fitzgerald played mostly strong women. However, her career suffered from disputes with his superiors of their film studio Warner Bros..

She celebrated her biggest success as Isabella Linton in the film classic Wuthering Heights, for which she was nominated for the 1940 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In their further career, she starred alongside Hollywood greats like Laurence Olivier, Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis.

In her last years, the actress was suffering from Alzheimer's. Geraldine Fitzgerald left a son, the director Michael Lindsay Hogg, and a daughter.
