12th Academy Awards
The Academy Awards 1940 took place on February 29, 1940 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. It was the 12th Annual Academy Awards. In the year of award films of the past year are always excellent, in this case, the films of the year 1939.
With 13 nominations and ten awards in 8 categories, the movie was Gone with the Wind, the most awards. Director Victor Fleming, who was hailed as Best Director, boycotted the ceremony for unknown reasons.
A special prize for outstanding achievement in the use of color effects in Gone with the Wind, William Cameron Menzies went to. The film was also awarded the Academy Award for Technical Merit.
