Geography

Geographical Location

Geroda is located in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park, in Thulbatal, on the southern slopes of the so- called Black Mountain.

History

The name comes from the Early New High Ger Geroda for spear and Roda for clearing and describes a wedge-shaped clearing. In the 12th century the first church was built. In the late Middle Ages, the village was divided into two halves, the Fulda Bishops mortgaged by one half of the family von Bibra, who owned the other alternated between Mainz, Thiingen and von der Tann. Due to its location on a trade route, it was hit in the Thirty Years' War again and again by overhauling armies.

At least since the 19th century Jewish families in the village were resident who built a synagogue in 1907. This has been devastated by SA men in the pogrom of November 1938, mentioned in a plaque recalls. 1910, the Jewish cemetery was established.

Incorporations

As part of the Bavarian village of reforms the market rights of the former market square ( the day of incorporation ) was transferred to the new church Geroda on 1 July 1971.

Through a silver tip is swept, in a floating black Tatzenkreuz, split blue and red; forward an occupied three rings silver oblique beams, behind a curved silver fish.

Coat of Arms history

1971 from the former municipality Geroda and the market place, the market town of Geroda formed. Geroda belonged to his abbey of Fulda in 1803, after which the emblem indicating the fuldische Tatzenkreuz. The market town square however has the Bishopric of Würzburg. The basic rule in both communities was the Würzburg Julius Spital. This led in 1802 to survey the market of the town square. The emblem has the silver oblique beams in blue with three blue rings indicate the Julius Spital. The coat of arms of the hospital is also the coat of arms of its founder, Bishop Julius Real Mespelbrunn ( 1573-1617 ). The silver fish is taken from the coat of arms of Baron von der Tann. The coat of arms granted the government of Lower Franconia on 10 December 1980.

Regular events

Mid- June, the Geröder Droohdeseldour and Geröder place walking barrel.

On the second weekend in October, the Geröder fair will take place. The fair is organized by the fair society Geroda Square eV and celebrated with traditional folk dances and a church parade.

The local community indicator informs the citizens monthly on current events and celebrations in the village. The Community Library is open every Wednesday 16-17 clock
