Geography

Geographical Location

The place is situated on the southern slopes of the Biosphere Reserve Rhön about 14 kilometers northwest of the town of Bad Kissingen. In the north the municipality borders the district of Rhön - grave field.

History

Incorporations

The market was re- formed on 1 January 1972 as part of the municipal reorganization in Bavaria by the merger of the municipalities Burkard Roth, Mrs Roth, Gefäll, Katzenbach, Lauter, Oehrberg, Stralsbach, Waldfenster, Wollbach in Bad Kissingen and Zahlbach. On May 1, 1978 Premich and Stangenroth were added.

After the last local election on 2 March 2008 the council has 20 members. The turnout was 70.9 %. The choice was as follows:

Mayor

In the mayoral election of 2008, incumbent Emil Müller ( CSU) had to admit defeat, which reached 50.5 % and by a margin of only 45 votes won the election with 49.5% almost his challenger Waldemar Bug ( ODP ). Bug is also the first ODP Member who achieved the victory in a mayoral election.

Coat of Arms history

Burkard Roth is a young community, and was formed in 1972 by merging the mentioned above under community structure formerly independent communities. The crossed lily stems in the coat of arms are the arms of the former Cistercian monastery Frauenroth removed. Otto Graf von Henneberg - Botenlauben sold in 1231 his property to the Bishopric of Würzburg. He built in 1234 the monastery, which was repealed in 1574. The fire Chung in municipal coat of arms is derived from the arms of the Counts. It points to its importance for the municipality. The grave of the founder of the monastery is located in the former monastery church. The crossed maces were the arms of the forester of Lebenhan - Red piston removed. They were the forester in the so-called Salzenforst for a large part of its territory. The coat of arms was granted on 28 June 1974 by the government of Lower Franconia.

Twinning

1989, an official community friendship with Ense (Nordrhein- Westfalen) was closed.

Attractions

The most important monuments of the market are the parish church of St. Peter in chains from the 17th century and the church of the former Cistercian monastery Mrs. Roth.
